Mpowering Our Community

M Club - Mpowering our community - a program of the LGBT Center of RaleighWHAT IS M CLUB:

M Club is a community building program for young gay and bi men ages approximately 18-29 in the Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. It's a program of the LGBT Center of Raleigh. We are part of the nationwide network of groups, the Mpowerment Project.

WHAT DOES M CLUB DO:

M Club hosts 3 or 4 events a month along with Core Group meetings and M Group discussions. Our events are divided into 3 categories: fun social event, educational events, and volunteering. We do things like bowling, hiking, movies, dinners, game nights, dancing, mini-golf, beach trips, cook outs, volunteering, seminars, workshops, etc. Our events are drug, alcohol, and hookup free.

VISION:

To create a happy, healthy, united gay community through empowerment and education.

M ClubWHO’S WELCOME:

Everyone is welcome at M Club events. We don’t clique or exclude. Lots of different kinds of guys are part of M Club. We’re about having fun and that everyone is cool when you be yourself. New people are always welcome! We have people sign up for the email list every week. Even though the M Club is specifically for young gay/bi men, friends are always welcome- straight, gay, lesbian, trans, etc.

HISTORY

M Club is a brother organization to The Mu Crew (www.themucrew.com) in Ohio. The Mu Crew is part of the mPowerment Project (www.mpowerment.org) - an HIV prevention program based on building strong support networks, which is overseen by the AIDS Resource Center Ohio. The Mu Crew has been hugely successful in Ohio impacting the lives of many young gay men (and a few women too) over the past 5 years M Club has been going for about 1 year and was started by a former member of The Mu Crew. We have about 25 active members, with a lot of more interested and supportive.

How can you make a difference in our community?

M Club organizes fun social, educational, and volunteering events and works to create a stronger community for young gay/bi men because we face lots of different issues, from coming out and discrimination, to isolation and negative stereotypes.

If the Mpowerment Message makes sense to you, get involved! Support your friends.
